K-PREP

The K-Prep program has been developed to provide a transitional year of school prior to Kindergarten.  Through small class size and qualified, gifted educators, “K Prep” offers a theme-based program with an emphasis on literacy skills and phonics to address each child’s individual needs. The goal of “K Prep” is to build independence and provide each child with daily opportunities for success in a school environment, thus serving as an invaluable stepping stone for future academic growth.

K Prep will follow the Linn-Mar school calendar, and is in session from September through the end of May.  Children who are four and five years old and born before September 15th are eligible for admission to this class.

K Prep offers an integrated developmentally appropriate program in a nurturing atmosphere that gets children off to a great start, lays the foundation for young children to be successful learners, and prepares them for a positive and successful school experience.

The K-Prep program is a program designed through Hand In Hand, Inc  and the Sounds Sensible program.  Sounds Sensible is a research-based phonological awareness and beginning phonics program.

“ Reading Experts tell us that the most reliable indicators of reading success are phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, and an understanding of letter-sound relationships.  Sounds Sensible is a multi-sensory systematic program designed for grades PK-1 that incorporates phonological awareness and beginning phonics instruction.  Sounds Sensible is research based and time-tested to help you meet the goals of Reading First and the No Child Left Behind initiative.  Based on Orton-Gillingham principles, Sounds Sensible offers structured, sequential, hands-on instruction-making it uniquely effective as part of an intervention, a remedial, or an inclusion program, or as a core program in beginning reading classrooms.”
